Summer in the Country- Things to do!
There are only a few weeks of summer left, and I wanted to recap my highlights of the season and give y'all some ideas for things to do! I love spending summer in Indiana. There's something about the way your mood changes when the sun finally comes peeking out of the snow clouds! Here are a ton of things I love to do in my home state!
-Visit the county fairs: In the summer, you just have to drive about 15 minutes over the county line, and you'll find yourself at a 4-H fair, standing in line for some hot BBQ ribs and buttery corn! They also usually have free events at the fair, like tractor pulls and pig races. Haha
-Sleeping with the windows open: I find the most relaxing noise to listen to is either the rain on your back porch or the crickets chirping outside.
-Spend the weekend camping.
-Hand wash the car instead of taking it to the car wash.
-Go fishing: Pack a lunch, bring a book, and sit under the tree waiting for a bite.
-Yard sale and thrifting: Summer is a good time to finish the projects you've been putting off. Try painting outside.
-Play ball: We love playing baseball in the park until the sun sets.
-Have a war with squirt guns and water balloons.
-Plant a garden: Another one of my summer favorites is walking barefooted out to the garden to munch on some fresh veggies!
-Relax with a picnic by the creek and put your feet in the water.
-Go for a hike in the State park.
-Catch lightning bugs when the sun goes down.
-Go for a paddleboat or canoe ride.
-Support your local businesses and visit the farmer's market.
-Have a bonfire when the sun goes down and create different kinds of s'mores.
-Go all out for Independence Day with fireworks, parades and icecream!
-Pick berries at the patch.
-Drive with the windows down on some back roads: Turn up your music and just relax.
-Watch a rodeo.
-Go horseback riding.
-Go for a walk.
-Watch the summer storms.
-Make some summer treats like popsicles and fresh lemonade.
-Air dry your laundry on the clothesline.
-Watch a demolition derby, monster truck race or BMX show!
-Go to the Drive-in Theater after supper.
-Do one of your hobbies on the porch swing and enjoy the day.
-Try all the hole-in-the-wall icecream spots!
These are just a *few* things I love to do in summer! It only lasts for just a few short months, so I take advantage of every day I have! If you're ever trying to think of some dates or activities in your farm town, here are some ideas! As much as I'm loving the warm weather and sunshine, I can't avoid the fact that my all-time favorite season of the year is coming very very soon!!!
